Yellow Fish Road Program - $600

Students in Mr. Wilson’s grade 3 class at Gordon Terrace will learn about the importance of monitoring what goes down storm drains in their school zone because it either drains into Elizabeth Lake, a local wetland, or into Joseph Creek. With the help of adults they will locate and repaint fish signs beside each storm drain in their school zone. They will help to design Yellow Fish Newsletters, which will explain the significance of the yellow fish signs and distribute them to the approximately 600 households in their school zone. They will make presentations to other classes; teach another 2 classes about the program through hands on activities; and make a presentation to Cranbrook City Council. Their work will be publicized in the local newspaper and also be featured on the CBEEN website as previously. It is also the intention to support the two schools involved last year and continue the programs in those school zones as well as involve St. Mary’s and Amy Woodland. This would be done in conjunction with the Rocky Mountain Naturalists, the custodians of Elizabeth Lake.
