HABITAT
USE OF THE ARROW LAKES RESERVOIR
Canadian
Columbia River Inter-Tribal Fisheries Commission - (Revelstoke,
BC)
$10,000.00
The
Habitat Use of the Arrow Lakes Reservoir pre-spawning and spawning
adult white sturgeon project will:
(1)Identify the relationship between Revelstoke Dam discharge
and river temperature and the migration and behaviour of pre-spawning
adult white sturgeon and the timing of spawning events; (2)
identify the percent egg hatch at the spawning locations; (3)
determine the survival rate of hatched larvae to externally
feeding juvenile stages; (4) obtain preliminary data on the
degree of egg stranding during low discharge periods from Revelstoke
Dam; and (5) if the rearing of larvae to actively feeding juvenile
stages is successful, the results would indicate that the post
Revelstoke Dam temperature conditions do not directly result
in recruitment failure, and that the development of a white
sturgeon conservation aquaculture program at Revelstoke is feasible.
