Erie
Creek Fish Habitat Enhancement Project
Salmo
River Streamkeepers Society (Salmo, BC)
$5,000.00
The
Salmo Watershed Streamkeepers Society (SWSS) is working with
landowners to enhance ecosystem values, fish habitat, prevent
flooding and stabilize banks in this highly impacted section
of Erie Creek. This project is seen as a demonstration project.
It is outlined in the "Habitat Assessments and Restoration
Prescriptions for the Lower Reach of Erie Creek within the Salmo
River Watershed" as commissioned by the 37 member Watershed
Planning Team of the Salmo Watershed-based Fish Sustainability
Plan. The creek is threatening to break through the project
site causing significant land loss, a threat to the highway
3 bridge and the town of Salmo. Local materials to reduce costs
will be used. The site is 25m long and will be designed to 1:200
year flow.
