SAND
CREEK RESTORATION PROJECT
Dorothy
Martinis (Jaffray, BC)
$15,720.00
The
project will help to restore fish habitat lost as a result of
historic flood control practices along the Martinis property
for a distance of about 100 meters and will help to restore
habitat for cutthroat trout and bull trout that are both regionally
important fish species. A large scale habtiat restoration and
landowner education project has been occuring on Sand Creek
by the Lower Sand Creek Restoration Group since 2000 and the
benefits have been reduced erosion and a change in land management
practices by landowners. The project will utilize experts in
hydrology and fish habitat restoration. Placement of rootwads,
logs and boulders to create in-stream habitat and the stream
banks along the property will be sloped to a more natural condition
and planted with native shrubs, trees and grasses.
