WORKSHOP
FOR BOATING BEST PRACTICES IN THE COLUMBIA WETLANDS WILDLIFE
MANAGEMENT AREA
Tourism
Action Society in the Kootenays - TASK (Revelstoke, BC)
$7,600.00
Research
completed by Robert Ferguson, R.P. Bio., in 2005, recommended
that TASK pursue development of best management practices for
non-motorized boats and boats powered by small motors (<10
HP) in wetland habitats, specifically focusing on the Columbia
Wetlands Wildlife Management Area. This project will host two
days of stakeholder workshops involving individuals, organizations
and agencies to review current practices, identify what is working,
issues, and next steps. The workshops would also build awareness
about how stakeholders can collaborate among themselves and
with their communities to reinforce stewardship of valuable
wetland habitats where boating is permited.
